The historical evolution of the Department of Computer Engineering and Electronic Systems has its roots in 1965, with the establishment of the Higher School of Electronics, which in 1981 joined the KATEE. Through a long process of development that included the transformation of the KATEE Department of Electronics into the Department of Electronics of the National Technical University of Thessaloniki in 1983 and the establishment of the Department of Computer Science of the National Technical University of Thessaloniki in 1987, the two Departments were incorporated into the Technological Sector of the Universities in 2012. A pivotal point was in 2019, with the integration into the International Hellenic University (DIPAE) and the merger of the two Departments of the National Technical University of Thessaloniki into the Department of Computer Engineering and Electronic Systems with a five-year curriculum. The academic upgrade was sealed with the certification of the curriculum in 2024, the integration into the Polytechnic School and the award of an Integrated Master along with the corresponding professional rights in 2025.
