Educational goals

The purpose of the course is to provide the student with the knowledge needed to design a modern computer-controlled measurement system and thus to combine the knowledge gained during the previous semesters of electronics, measurements and programming. Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to

  • Analyze how the electronic measuring devices work
  • Understand the specifications of sensors, measuring instruments and their interfaces with a computer
  • Describe the measurement process and its detailed steps
  • Combine its components into an integrated measurement system, critically utilizing the knowledge of programming and the composition of electronic measurement devices
General Skills
  • Search, analyze and synthesize data and information of measurement devices
  • Deciding on a different approach to system implementation
  • Independent work
  • Teamwork and partitioning
  • Promoting creative and inductive thinking

Course Contents

  • Designing virtual instruments on a computer
  • Measuring instrumentation specifications

Students evaluation

A. Final written examination (WE) (40%)
-Multiple choice questions
-Simple answer questions

B. Individual Work and Public Presentation (IW) (30%)
- Assigned individually to each student
-The scope and specifications of the work are determined by the 5th week.

C. Teamwork and Public Presentation (TW) (30%)
- Assigned to groups of two students
-The subject and specifications of the work are determined by the 8th week.

In order to be awarded a credit, the total grade (WE * 0,4 + IW * 0,3 + TW * 0,3) must be at least five (5). In addition, the independent grade in each of the evaluation methods A, B and C must be at least four (4).

Assessment criteria are accessible to students on the course web site and announced in the first lesson.
