Dr. Periklis Chatzimisios serves as a Professor in the Department of Information and Electronic Engineering (DIEE) at the International Hellenic University (IHU). He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Information Engineering from the Department of Informatics at the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (ATEITH), continued his studies with a scholarship at Bournemouth University (U.K.), and received his Ph.D. with honors in 2005 with a dissertation on “Modeling and Performance Optimization of Wireless Communication Protocols”. Between 2014-2019 and 2009-2013, he served as a Professor/Associate Professor and Assistant Professor in the DIEE and the Science & Technology Department of IHU and the Information Engineering Department of ATEITH. In 2021, he was awarded the title of Research Professor from the University of New Mexico (USA), and since 2016 he has been a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Science & Technology at Bournemouth University. He has previously been a Visiting Professor–Researcher at University Pierre and Marie Curie (France), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (USA), and University of Toronto (UoT) (Canada).

Administrative work:
In the past, he has undertaken various administrative roles both in Greece and abroad. Specifically, at IHU, he served as an Alternate Member (Board of Directors of the University Center of International Programs of Studies), Deputy Dean (School of Science and Technology), Deputy Chairman (Department of Science and Technology), as well as a Member of the Seven-Member Research and Management Committee of the Special Account for Research Funds. He has been Director of the Computer Systems, Security, and Networks Research Laboratory (C.S.S.N.) (2016-2019), Director of the Technology and Computer Systems Division of the Department of Information Engineering at ATEITH (2015-2017), and a Member of the Erasmus Institutional Committee of ATEITH (2012-2018) as well as Departmental Academic Coordinator for Erasmus+ & LLP Programs (2009-2019), achieving more than 70 agreements with Universities, Research Centers, and Telecommunications Providers in Europe and internationally.

Research Work:
He participates/has participated as a scientific manager and researcher in more than 25 European and National research and development projects. In the past, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher with a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (2007-2008).

Scientific Work, publications, and distinctions:
For more than 20 years, he has participated as a Member and/or Chairman on the scientific/organizing committee of hundreds of international conferences and the scientific committee of a large number of journals. He has authored/edited 7 books, 8 collective volumes, and more than 170 research papers published in internationally recognized scientific journals, conferences, and book chapters. Since 2020, he has been consistently included in Stanford University’s list of researchers in the top 2% of the most cited scientists worldwide (J. Baas, 2022, “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators”) and in many international and national lists of researchers distinguished for their research work.

Teaching and supervision:
Since 2001, he has taught/teaches in a large number of Undergraduate/Postgraduate Programs at Greek and foreign universities such as the Hellenic Open University, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Western Macedonia, University of Macedonia, Open University of Cyprus, Bournemouth University, and the Technological Educational Institutes of Thessaloniki/Larissa/Serres/Lamia. He supervises 11 PhD candidates (7 as the main supervisor), has evaluated more than 45 doctoral theses, and to date has supervised more than 70 postgraduate and 100 undergraduate students in Greece and abroad.

Participation in scientific journals and conferences:
Dr. Chatzimisios participates as a Member and/or Chairman on the scientific/organizing committee of dozens of international conferences and journals. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Standards Education e-Magazine (eZine), E-letter Director/co-Director (2012-2016) for the IEEE TC on Multimedia Communications (MMTC), and has organized (as Guest Editor) more than 45 Special Issues in international scientific journals. Additionally, he has organized and been invited as a Speaker at a large number of scientific events and talks.

Participation in scientific committees:
Dr. Chatzimisios is involved in a large number of standardization activities, serving/having served as a Member of the IEEE 5G Initiative, IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc) Standards Development Board, IEEE ComSoc Standards Program Development Board, IEEE ComSoc Education Services Board, and IEEE ComSoc Industry Outreach Board. He is the Chairman of the ComSoc Young Professionals (YP) Committee and the IEEE Greece Communications Chapter.
